IV.    ANNOUNCEMENT: Statement From National President Chuck Canterbury Regarding President Trump’s Intention To Nominate Him As The Next Director Of ATF (CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL LETTER)

I would like to thank the FOP and all of our members for the many years of support during my service on the National Board of Directors. In view of the notice of intent to nominate me as the next Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives by President Trump yesterday, I of course will not be seeking reelection as President.

I had long since launched a vigorous campaign for reelection and have been fortunate to have received a number of donations and endorsements for my campaign. I will be returning those donations over the course of the next week and thank the hundreds of you that have sent contributions and I was very much intent on being reelected.

The President’s confidence in me is a tremendous honor and it afford me an extraordinary opportunity to return to active law enforcement service and to finish my career white it began—in working to ensure that our country is a safer and more secure place for all citizens.

Again, I thank the 346,000 members of the FOP for their loyalty and support and I will always be #FOPSTRONG.

Fraternally yours,

Chuck Canterbury
